Why Are My Aprons are Named “Vancouver” Followed by a Number?

One of the most common questions I get is: “Why are your aprons named Vancouver, and what do the numbers mean?”

It’s a great question and one that reflects how personal and intentional every detail of my designs truly is.

The “Vancouver” part is a nod to where it all began. Chef & Co Canada is proudly based in Vancouver, BC, and our aprons are designed and made locally in small batches. Using “Vancouver” in the name honours our roots and highlights the fact that we’re a micro business with a commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and community.

The number that follows each apron name represents a specific pocket pattern design. It’s not about the order in which the design was created and these numbers aren’t sequential. Instead, they serve as a kind of shorthand or signature style. Over time, chefs have come to recognize the numbers as identifiers for particular pocket styles. For example, some will message me asking, “What colours do you have in Vancouver 94?” because they know that number refers to a pocket layout they love and trust.

It was always my dream to design a website where you could click on a pocket number—like Vancouver 94—and instantly see all the apron colours available in that design. That dream is slowly coming to life, and I’m excited to keep building a space that’s as intuitive, organized, and chef-friendly as possible.

Each design tells a story about functionality, identity, design, and the people who choose to wear it. Some may choose a certain design over others for colours, some choose it for pockets, and others may simply choose it to try something new and unique!
